The famous verse written on this ketubah is from the book of Psalms in the Bible[1]. אִֽם־אֶשְׁכָּחֵ֥ךְ יְֽרוּשָׁלָ֗͏ִם תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח יְמִינִֽי׃ Translated If I [(Israel)] forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand be forgotten. The Malbim[2]. explains the verse is putting forward the idea that just as the right hand is ready for all one’s motions and occupations, so Jerusalem is the beloved of all our motions and occupations. Therefore, it is impossible to forget her just as it is impossible to forget one’s right hand.
The verse on the bottom is from the book of Song of songs 6:3 in the Bible אני לדודי ודודי לי which means “I am my Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine.
